IT - Aligned and Delivered

"To help our clients achieve their business objectives by providing the best possible service in delivery of Information Technology solutions"

Mind that Gap

We are finding that the current shortage is different from past skill gaps. It is impacting all areas of the IT industry and not just specific technical skills. This is appearing more as directors of the companies who talk to us are running what could be best described as resource – constrained projects in this current climate. This is not just through lack of budget but from the lack of the right people

The skills shortage in the IT industry has increased from a 4.2 per cent shortfall in people last year to 6.8 per cent this year - the highest in the past decade, according to researchers.

A recent study carried out by the National Computing Centre (NCC) found that shortages are seen as a recruitment problem rather than a retention issue. The study suggests that professionals with Oracle, SAP, Microsoft .Net, web development, network support, business analysis and project management skills, as well as virtualisation technologies, will be in high demand over the next two years. Even with the repercussions of the credit crunch we are finding more and more organisations are doing business online so demand for web-related skills is buoyant.

Leveraging Mainframe Skills

Recent figures show that 80% of the people who work on mainframes are 50 years of age or older. Large numbers of them will be retiring soon and this is happening when the mainframe is making a big comeback as a key component in the new enterprise architectures – Business Integration, Service Orientated Architecture, Virtualization etc. Clearly new IT entrants want to be in the world of Web, Java, Linux and the like.

Clearly you will need a plan as you will not be able to rely on the availability of expensive contractors as time moves forward. Eclipse has a good mix of IBM, Cobol,DB2, Oracle,AS400 skills and many of our clients rely on us to manage and support the mainframe applications are that are often critical to the success of their businesses.

Use the invaluable skills and experience of Eclipse mainframe workforce to educate and inspire the next generation.
